Duke of Edinburgh

The Award is a flexible, interesting and fun-packed program for young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to participate in a number of activities over a set length of time. It is entirely voluntary and is structured so the participants can design their own unique program centered around their interests and passions. There are three levels of the Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each takes a set length of time, becoming longer but more rewarding. At St. Patrick’s College we present programs leading to Bronze and Silver Awards. The Bronze is offered to Year 9 students over the age of 14 years and the Silver is awarded to students over the age of 15 years. There are 4 Sections to The Award. For each Section, Participants get to choose and undertake an activity that fits in with the purpose of that Section, for the minimum amount of time specified for their chosen Level. Physical Recreation This could be through a team sport, individual pursuit or simply getting out there and working up a sweat. Skill Anything from refereeing, to DJing to learning a musical instrument, to jewellery making. Volunteering Any area of interest in the community, such as youth work, the environment or charity work. Adventurous Journey A journey into an unfamiliar environment with a group – bushwalking, canoeing, cycling – staying overnight and testing your resilience. At St. Patrick’s we take advantage of our close proximity to the Royal National Park for overnight camping and bushwalking expeditions.
